State Capitol Press History
This photo was probably taken in 1986 or 1987 by veteran press photographer Dick Baldwin, a frequent contributor to United Press International and Reuters news services. He continues today as a photographer for the Washington State Senate. In the photo,reporters met with Gov. Booth Gardner in the governor's conference room at the capitol. To the govenor's left is Bob McDaniel, longtime UPI Olympia bureau chief. Behind him is Bob Partlow, longtime reporter for The Bellingham Herald and The Olympian. Seated to the left is Pete Callaghan, who remains a columnist today for the Tacoma News Tribune. Also on that side of the table is Mike Layton of the Seattle P-I. Further down to the end of the table is Ed Evans, KIRO TV’s former bureau chief, and standing behind him is longtime TV photographer Jay Johnson. Jay still works with in Olympia with KIRO-TV. In the back, is Keith Eldridge, a KOMO reporter-anchor since 1983. To Gov. Gardner's right, is Dan Tritle, then with The Evergreen Radio Network and now an on-air newsman for the NPR station near Cape Cod, Mass; Next is Larry Ganders, who was then the Western Washington reporter for the Tri-City Herald and now a supervisor for the Murrow News Service program; Mark Funk, now a political consultant, reported then to The Herald of Everett; and Walter Hatch of the Seattle Times is standing behind Ganders. |
